    TomTom develops turn-by-turn navigation application and new car kit for the iPhone
    Peter-Frans Pauwels, TomTom’s co-founder and CTO, demonstrated TomTom’s navigation software in combination with a specially designed car kit on the iPhone- during Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco on June 8th, 2009.

    The TomTom solution combines two new TomTom products to provide users with state of the art in-car navigation on their iPhone 3G:

    The TomTom navigation application for iPhone; an Apple version of TomTom’s award-winning turn-by-turn navigation software, including IQ Routes and latest maps from Tele Atlas;

    The TomTom car kit for iPhone; a specially developed car kit for secure docking, enhanced GPS performance, clear voice instructions, hands-free calling and in-car charging.

    The TomTom navigation application for iPhone will be available via the Apple iTunes App Store, following the release of Apple’s OS 3.0 operating system. Details regarding pricing and availability for both the application and the TomTom car kit for iPhone will be made available in advance of the products’ launch later this summer.

    Ga 's voor de gein www.tomtom.nl !

    TomTom voot de Iphone prominent op de openingspagina! Ze zijn er blij mee en er helemaal klaar voor! Nou kunnen de analisten eens over wat anders zeuren (o nee: "nadenken") dan over claimemissies!

    Hoeveel APP's/kaarten/ABO's zouden ze gaan verkopen? Dat wordt minstens voor vele tientallen miljoenen, maar mogelijk zelfs honderden!

    En dat is allemaal omzet die vrijwel linea recta naar de bottom-line dondert!

    Het moet toch wel gek lopen wanneer ze daar niet voor opening een juweel van een PB over de wereld inhelpen! Toevallig net vandaag mijn positie weer op peil gebracht! Jippie!

    En dat allemaal dank zij de TA? Mij benieuwen wat Korin hierover te melden heeft. Hij/zij zit in ieder geval niet goed met de gedane voorspelling. Overigens ik waarschijnlijk ook niet.

    Eigenlijk hoop ik dat ze er nog even mee wachten, een PB, tot een half uur na de opening. Kan ik er nog wat stukjes op een laag niveau bijkopen.

    Hopelijk gebeurd er overigens niet wat er altijd gebeurd met een goed persbericht.

    TomTom coming to the iPhone
    Today at the Apple worldwide developer conference in San Francisco TomTom’s CTO and co-founder, Peter-Frans Pauwels, performed a demonstration of a TomTom turn by turn application for the iPhone 3.0 operating system. This application is expected to be for sale this summer as well as a customized car kit for the iPhone. The car kit integrates a microphone and a speaker for hands-free calls and an improved sound quality. Obviously no price was mentioned at this stage.

    With a dedicated car kit the Dutch company will be hitting pure mobile software companies (such as TeleNav, Telmap and Networks In Motion) on the punch line. This accessory will both differentiate its solution - from the forthcoming long tail of navigation software on the App store - and provides additional revenue through its traditional retail partners.

    New “TomTom on-board Mobile” team?
    This announcement follows last week availability of TomTom Navigator 7 on Windows Mobile (read more here1551). Both news items indicate that TomTom executives seem to get moving on the mobile front after many hesitations on their strategy in the past.

    The Dutch PND manufacturer created last year a Mobile division called TomTom Mobile which was soon dismantled and its managing director, Kurt Lyall (read more here1077), left the company in April 2009 after only eight months in that position. Despite that, it appears that Benoit Simeray, who was previously in charge of sales in Southern Europe - and briefly of global expansion (our interview here1412) - is now “Senior Vice President On-Board Mobile at TomTom” clearly indicating that the Dutch company is willing to dedicate at least a senior executive to its Smartphone sales.

    gefeliciteerd mensen hier..prima dag voor tomtom beleggers..zit nog te overwegen voor opening us een plukje te kopen middels sprinter...maar ik heb het gevoel dat nu de grootste stijging geweest is nm..maar dat VS een nieuwe impuls kan zijn voor de koers

    MobileNavigator Navigon iPhone App
    June 9 2009
    Following on the heels of the big TomTom announcement yesterday, Navigon has announced they too are building an iPhone app and expect it to be available in June… before TomTom gets their app out the door. It will be available for the 3G and 3Gs models, with pricing to be announced later.

    The app will presumably be called “MobileNavigator from Navigon”, and be available before the end of the month. You will get many of the features Navigon has become known for such as Reality View Pro, Real Roadsign Pro, Lane Assistant Pro, Speed Assistant, and Day & Night Mode. Just like the TomTom app, MobileNavigator will work in both portrait and landscape views and can navigate to an address from the Contacts app on the iPhone.

    In addition to the full turn-by-turn app, there will also be a version called MobileNavigator LITE (free!) which doesn’t provide route guidance but does show maps and POIs.
