   Rexel consolidated sales for the first quarter of 2006 amounted to 1,967 M€, up 9.5% on a comparable structure, exchange rate and trading day basis over the same period in 2005. Sales were up 16.9% after taking into account favorable changes in the Group's scope of consolidation for 3 M€ (2005 acquisitions for 5 M€ and 2006 acquisition of Elektro-Material for 27 M€, disposal of Schrack Group and Brazil for -29 M€) and the favorable impact of exchange rate fluctuations for 73 M€. These reflect principally the US and Canadian dollars appreciation versus the Euro.
   
   The sales trend by geographic area after implementation of the IAS 14 "Segment Information" accounting standard, was as follows:

   Jean-Charles Pauze, Rexel Chairman and CEO, commented:
   « During the first quarter of 2006, the dynamism of our teams and our commercial initiatives, associated with a favourable market environment, have contributed to strong top-line growth and led us to outperform the market in major areas. »
   
   Sales in Europe increased strongly in the first quarter. They were particularly robust in France, where both the Rexel and Coaxel networks performed well. While sales were flat in Germany, Rexel registered high growth rates in Austria, Benelux, Sweden and the UK. Thanks to specific customer segment developments and closer cooperation with suppliers, Rexel improved its competitive positioning.
   
   North America maintained high levels of sales growth, especially in the US where Rexel posted growth in non residential construction and in industrial projects business. All US regions achieved strong sales development. Growth in Canada was driven by the excellent Western activity, notably in the commercial and industrial sectors. Rexel's backlog in both the US and Canada was up compared to the same period of 2005.
   
   Sales growth in Asia-Pacific was on an upward trend in the first quarter of 2006 compared to 2005. In Australia, the impact of a weakening residential market was more than compensated by improved commercial activity as well as resources and mining projects. In New Zealand, sales growth was driven by a renewed project portfolio.
   
   N°1 worldwide network in the distribution of electrical supplies, Rexel is present in 24 countries with a network of 1,686 branches. The Group employs 21,000 employees and posted sales of € 7.377 billion in 2005.

    het geven van energie (positive natuurlijk), hoe raar het soms kan klinken, geeft nog meer energie! mmmm zal ik vanavond HGM maar eens in een mooi wit ligt gaan bekijken/visualizeren!
