www.iphoneuserguide.com/apple/2010/12...Angry birds? What birds? The MLB At Bat baseball app has been named the top-grossing iPhone app of the year by Apple’s iTunes Rewind.
While the insanely popular game Angry Birds was the most downloaded paid app on iTunes this year, baseball fans made MLB At Bat the highest grossing application for 2010. MLB At Bat puts fans right in the stadium with its live video and audio streaming of games, plus news and highlights.
Especially popular is MLB’s At The Ballpark social media feature that lets fans interact with each other from the stadiums. The app can be downloaded free at the App Store during the off-season, but requires a yearly subscription fee of $14.99 for the whole baseball season. According to Apple, MLB was accessed 37 million times during the World Series and post season by fans.
Other apps ranking high on the iTunes Rewind top grossing list for 2010 besides Angry Birds were mostly games, including Call of Duty: Zombies, Bejeweled 2, Plants vs Zombies, social networking app Friend Caller 3 Pro, Zombie Farm, Tetris, Doodle Jump and navigation app TomTom USA.
