    MARTINSRIED / MUNICH, Germany, April 7, 2016 -- MorphoSys AG (FSE: MOR; Prime Standard Segment, TecDAX; OTC: MPSYY) and Galapagos NV (Euronext & NASDAQ: GLPG) announced today that dosing of MOR106, a first-in-class human monoclonal antibody, in healthy volunteers has been initiated in a phase 1 study. MOR106 was jointly discovered by MorphoSys and Galapagos under their collaboration, and has a novel mode of action with potential application in inflammation.

    The primary objective of the phase 1 study is to evaluate the safety and tolerability of single doses of MOR106. The study is randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled and conducted in a single center in at least 56 healthy volunteers in Belgium, evaluating single ascending doses (SAD) administered as intravenous infusion. This phase 1 study is characterized by its adaptive design, which enables the initiation of a subsequent multiple ascending dose (MAD) study in patients, depending on the outcome of the SAD study in healthy volunteers.

    The study's secondary objective is to characterize the pharmacokinetic profile of MOR106 as well as monitor the occurrence of anti-drug antibodies as a measure of immunogenicity with MOR106. Topline results of the complete study, including the potential subsequent MAD part in patients, are expected in the second half of 2017.

    About MOR106 and the antibody collaboration
    MOR106 is a human IgG1 monoclonal antibody for treatment of inflammatory diseases. MOR106 arises from the alliance initiated by Galapagos and MorphoSys in 2008, in which both companies contribute their core technologies and expertise. Galapagos provides the disease-related biology including cellular assays and targets discovered using its target discovery platform. MorphoSys contributes its Ylanthia antibody technology to generate fully human antibodies directed against the target and contributes full CMC development of this compound. Galapagos and MorphoSys will continue to equally share the research and development costs, as well as all future revenues.

    Mechelen, België en Martinsried/München, Duitsland; 7 april 2016 – Galapagos NV (Euronext & NASDAQ: GLPG) en MorphoSys AG (FSE: MOR; Prime Standard Segment, TecDAX; OTC: MPSYY) hebben vandaag aangekondigd dat MOR106, een first-in-class kandidaatmedicijn, is gedoseerd aan gezonde vrijwilligers in een Fase 1 studie. MOR106 is een gezamenlijke ontdekking van Galapagos en MorphoSys binnen hun samenwerkingsovereenkomst, en heeft een nieuw werkingsmechanisme met een mogelijke toepassing in ontstekingsziekten.
    Het primaire doel van de Fase 1 studie is om de veiligheid en verdraagbaarheid na eenmalige oplopende doseringen va nMOR106 te bestuderen. De studie is gerandomiseerd en geblindeerd voor vrijwilligers en artsen, omvat een placebogroep en wordt gehouden in één centrum in België. Het nieuwe antilichaam zal aan minimaal 56 gezonde vrijwilligers worden toegediend. Deze Fase 1 studie kan gemakkelijk worden aangepast, waardoor, afhankelijk van de uitkomst van de studie in gezonde vrijwilligers, direct een meervoudige doseringsstudie in patiënten kan starten.
    Het secundaire doel van de Fase 1 studie is het bepalen van het farmocokinetische profiel van MOR106, en ook of er anti-medicijnantilichamen aanwezig zijn als maatstaf voor de mate waarin het antilichaam een specifieke immuunrespons oproept na toediening van MOR106. De resultaten van de hele studie, inclusief de mogelijke direct opvolgende studie in patiënten, worden verwacht in de tweede helft van 2017.

    Over MOR106 en de samenwerking op het gebied van antilichamen
    MOR106 is een menselijk IgG1 monoclonaal antilichaam voor de behandeling van ontstekingsziekten. MOR106 komt voort uit de in 2008 gestarte alliantie van Galapagos en Morphosys, waarin beide bedrijven hun technologie en expertise bijdragen. Galapagos voorziet in de ziekte-gerelateerde biologie, inclusief cellulaire assays en targets ontdekt met haar target discovery platform. MorphoSys draagt haar Ylanthia antilichaamtechnologie bij om zo volledig menselijke antilichamen te genereren gericht tegen het target, alsmede de volledige CMC ontwikkeling van deze compound. Galapagos en MorphoSys zullen onderzoeks- en ontwikkelingskosten gelijk blijven delen, net als alle toekomstige opbrengsten.

    Zelfs de Commerbank (degene die koers Galapagos heeft bedwongen laatste tijd) is positief over koersbereik van Galapagos.

    Morphosys gelingt der Ausbruch – nimmt die Aktie auch gleich die nächste Hürde?

    Die Aufholjagd von Morphosys hat sich in den vergangenen Tagen massiv beschleunigt, nachdem dem im TecDAX notierten Biotech-Wert der Ausbruch über den Widerstand bei 45 Euro gelungen war. Am heutigen Donnerstag marschierte Morphosys sogar bis annähernd 50 Euro durch, bevor die Aktie sich eine Verschnaufpause gönnte. Am Nachmittag notiert das Papier nahezu unverändert bei 47,41 Euro.

    Der positive Nachrichtenstrom reißt derzeit nicht ab: Nun meldete das Unternehmen für den Antikörper MOR106 den Start der klinischen Testphase I. Er soll letztlich irgendwann gegen entzündliche Erkrankungen zum Einsatz kommen. „Wir freuen uns, dass unser erster gemeinsam mit Galapagos entwickelter Antikörper in die klinische Entwicklung vorgerückt ist. MOR106 ist das fünfte firmeneigene Antikörperprogramm von Morphosys in der klinischen Entwicklung und der erste aus unserer neuen Ylanthia-Technologie-Plattform“, kommentiert der Entwicklungsvorstand Dr. Arndt Schottelius.

    Commerzbank zuversichtlich

    Commerzbank-Experte Daniel Wendorff hält vor allem die Klage auf Patentverletzung in den USA gegen Janssen Biotech und Genmab für bedeutend, die am Dienstag bekannt wurde. Mit seiner Klage beansprucht Morphosys Entschädigungen für die patentverletzende Herstellung, Verwendung und Verkauf von Daratumumab.

    Dieser Krebs-Antikörper sei einige Jahre voraus und aus seiner Sicht der Grund, warum eine MOR202-Kooperation mit Celgene 2015 geplatzt war. Die Klage könnte diesem Wirkstoffkandidaten nun entweder neues Leben einhauchen oder aber Morphosys zumindest Anteile am Erfolg von Daratumumab sichern, glaubte Wendorff. Patentklagen seien allerdings sehr schwer einzuschätzen, schränkte er ein. Die Commerzbank hat die Einstufung für Morphosys auf "Buy" mit einem Kursziel von 57 Euro belassen.

    Gewinne laufen lassen

    Die Morphosys-Empfehlung des Biotech-Report (www.biotechreport.de) vom 1. März 2016 kam gerade noch rechtzeitig. Seit dem Empfehlungskurs bei 37,22 Euro zog die Notierung in der Spitze bereits um rund 33 Prozent an. Und das dürfte erst der Anfang gewesen sein. Bei Morphosys haben Hedgefonds größere Positionen leer verkauft. Dies könnte zu einem starken Short-Squeeze führen, der die Aktie auch direkt über den nächsten Widerstand bei 55 Euro, wo auch die 200-Tage-Linie verläuft, hieven könnte. Unbedingt dabeibleiben.

    Theodoor Gilissen heeft een speculatief aanbevolen advies voor Galapagos. Jos Versteeg, aandelenanalist bij de vermogensbeheerder, waarschuwt wel dat het advies een hoog risicoprofiel heeft.

    Versteeg schrijft: “Galapagos gaat het medicijn GLPG1690 in een fase2a-studie brengen bij patiënten met Idiopathische Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF). Dat is een zeldzame longziekte die bij minder dan 30 op de 100.000 mensen voorkomt. Het bedrijf verwacht de werving van patiënten voor het einde van 2016 af te ronden en resultaten in het tweede kwartaal van 2017 te kunnen rapporteren.”

    “In maart 2015 werd bekend dat Janssen Pharmaceutica NV de volledige rechten van het medicijn had teruggegeven aan Galapagos. Het is niet duidelijk waarom na een succesvolle Fase 1 studie de samenwerking is stopgezet. In het jaarverslag over 2015 werd al gezegd dat Galapagos een aanvraag had ingediend voor het onderzoek.”

    Zelf opzetten
    Volgens Versteeg betreft het een korte ‘proof of concept’. “Als het geen succes is, zal Galapagos er snel mee stoppen. Omdat het een relatief kleine patiëntengroep is, kan Galapagos dit onderzoek uitstekend zelf opzetten.”

    Op dit moment bestaan er twee medicijnen tegen IPF, maar deze vertragen de achteruitgang van de longen niet en hebben ook nare bijwerkingen, meldt de analist.

In zijn kantoor met uitzicht op de Zuidas noemt hij Galapagos, ProQr, Ablynx en Gilead als voorbeelden van bedrijven die volgens hem duidelijk zijn ondergewaardeerd. Krol vertelt ook dat hij als particulier al lang volop investeerde in biotechbedrijven. Over de afgelopen twee jaar behaalde hij een rendement van 133%, wat wordt bevestigd door een verklaring van BinckBank.
