   Russische hackers zijn gecrediteerd met de meerderheid van de cyber-aanvallen op Microsoft-klanten, volgens Microsoft's Digital Defense Report.
   
   Rusland maakte 52 procent uit van de cyberaanvallen, terwijl Iran 25 procent en China 12 procent van juli 2019 tot juni 2020. De Verenigde Staten was de meest zwaar aangevallen land goed voor 69 procent van de aanvallen op Microsoft-klanten over de hele wereld.

   Het rapport vermeld dat niet-gouvernementele organisaties waren de grootste industrie gericht goed voor 32 procent van de cyberaanvallen. De ngo's die werden aangevallen waren belangengroepen, mensenrechtenorganisaties, non-profitorganisaties en denktanks gericht op openbare orde, internationale zaken en veiligheid.
   
   De tweede grootste industrie onder vuur was overheidsorganisaties goed voor 13 procent van de cyberaanvallen.
   
   "We zien natie-staat actoren voortdurend evolueren, proberen nieuwe technieken," zei Tom Burt, een vice-president bij Microsoft via Bloomberg. "Zoals het er nu uitziet, winnen de aanvallers in dat ze zo goed uitgerust zijn, zo vastberaden en zo wendbaar."
   
   De cyberaanvallen zijn gestaag toegenomen sinds het begin van de pandemie. Burt zei dat de buitenlandse belangen zijn blijven organisaties in verband met de Amerikaanse politiek richten in de afgelopen weken.
   
   "Iraanse hackers zijn ook productief, intensivering van het volume van hun aanvallen in de afgelopen zes maanden, volgens Burt via Bloomberg. " Alleen al in augustus 2019 vielen Iraanse hackers 241 Microsoft-accounts aan die zijn gekoppeld aan een Amerikaanse presidentiële campagne, huidige en voormalige Amerikaanse functionarissen, politieke journalisten en bekende Iraniërs die in het buitenland wonen, aldus het rapport. Terwijl slechts vier van deze aanvallen succesvol waren, verwacht Microsoft verhoogde activiteit aangezien de V.S. verkiezing nadert."
   
   Zoals de Verenigde Staten ziet toenemende cyberbedreigingen uit het buitenland, Donald Trump heeft niets gedaan om de vitale privacy, gegevens en veiligheid van Amerikaanse bedrijven te beschermen.

    Waarom het ertoe doet: de opmerkingen veroorzaakten verontwaardiging en vragen om opheldering van een aantal Republikeinse senatoren. Nadat hij woensdag verschillende keren was gevraagd of hij de blanke suprematie zal veroordelen, antwoordde Trump: "Ik heb altijd elke vorm aan de kaak gesteld - elke vorm daarvan moet je aan de kaak stellen. Maar ik ook - Joe Biden moet iets zeggen over antifa. "
