Ronnlund sells shares to partner Estlander
Martin Estlander, co-founder and one of the two principals of Finnish hedge fund company Estlander & Ronnlund, has bought the shares owned by his partner Kaj Ronnlund in the parent company Blue White Investments.
Ronnlund will continue as a board member of Blue White Investments and the firm says the share sale and purchase will have no impact on the activities of the Helsinki-based group. Jan-Peter Rehn and Per-Johan West will succeed Ronnlund in the operational management of the firm.
Estlander & Ronnlund (formerly known as er Capital Management until late 2005) was founded in 1991 and previously ran businesses in options market-making and online brokerage as well as hedge funds before deciding to streamline its activities in 2005 to concentrate on hedge fund management.
The firm runs around $375 million in its Estlander & Ronnlund Global Markets and twice-leveraged Global Markets XL systematic hedge fund trading strategies, with a staff of around 40 people.
Ronnlund said the decision to step back from operational management would enable him to devote time to other interests, including the alternative energy sector, and to spend more time with his family.
Estlander said the firm’s activities and strategy would be unchanged. “We are well prepared for the change and happy to make further use of Ronnlund’s expert knowledge through his engagement on the board,” he said.
